Questions belong in a good museum.
Start with the essentials. If your question is not covered here, contact us and we will help point you in the right direction.
Getting started
What is Pocket Museum?
Pocket Museum is a collection companion for photographing, identifying, cataloging, exploring, and sharing collectibles. It combines an Android app for capture and on-device tools with optional web, sync, profile, and community features.
What kinds of collectibles can I catalog?
Almost anything you can photograph and describe: pins, records, cards, coins, figures, sneakers, magnets, and memorabilia. A subscription also lets you define custom categories.
Do I need an account?
No. Core collection management works in local-only mode without signing in. A passwordless account is only needed for cloud sync, community submissions, shared groups, and other connected features.
How does image recognition work?
Pocket Museum creates a visual representation of a photo and compares it with known references. Local matching runs on your device. When you are signed in and choose connected matching, it can also compare against the moderated community reference database.
Your data and collection
Are my photos uploaded automatically?
Your collection stays on your device in local-only mode. Photos are uploaded when you enable sync or intentionally use a connected feature that needs them, such as image-based community matching or a community submission. See our Privacy Policy for details.
Is location required?
No. Location is optional and only used after permission is granted, such as recording where an item was acquired. You can deny or revoke permission and keep using Pocket Museum.
Can I export or delete my collection?
Collection data can be backed up or exported through available app tools. You can delete individual items, locally stored data, or your account and synced data. Approved community references may remain as part of the shared database.
How does sync work?
Signed-in collectors can opt into background sync across devices. Pocket Museum tracks changes so edits and deletions can be reconciled. You can sign out and continue in local-only mode.
Community and sharing
How do community contributions work?
Signed-in collectors can submit collectible records and images. Automated quality checks and human moderation review submissions before approval. Approved original entries expand recognition for everyone and credit the contributor.
Can I share my collection?
Yes. You can choose what appears on your public museum profile and organize items into exhibits. Private sync groups can also share one library with invited members.
How much does Pocket Museum cost?
Pocket Museum offers a useful core experience with optional paid capabilities. Current plans and included features are listed on the pricing section.
